669. CADWALADER RINGGOLD (1802-1867) Union naval officer, while in command of the frigate Sabine he effected the rescue of a battalion of Marines whose transport steamer had gone inshore and also of the ship of the line Vermont which had lost her rudder in a storm. A.L.S. 2pp. Large 4to., Washington, Feb. 28, 1848 attesting that a delivery of 32 pound solid shot had been made to New York and praising the performance and honesty of the vendor. Toned in a small area at left margin, else very good. $75-100
