Description:

A fine example of a scarce American target pistol, a Remington Arms Co. Army-Framed Target Model of 1891, 8 3/4" barrel, 14 1/2" overall, in .22-caliber, utilizing Remington's highly versatile "rolling block" action. The barrel is half-round, half-octagonal, with the top marked "Remington Arms Co. Ilion, N.Y." Features a knife-blade front sight and adjustable 'Rocky Mountain"-style rear sight. The barrel is blued while the frame originally showed case-hardened colors, faded to grey on this example. The left-hand side of the frame is marked: "Patents/May 3 1864/May 7 June 11/Nov 12 Dec 24/Dec 31 1872/Sept 9 1873". The caliber "22" appears on the underside of the round portion of the barrel, and the low serial number "88" appears on the underside of the octagonal portion of the barrel beneath the forearm, and again inside the forearm itself. The grip and forearm are of oiled walnut, and the underside of the grip is marked with a star. The bore shows some built-up grime, with the rifling still readily visible and the crown showing wear and slight deformation. The action cocks and fires sharply as built, the extractor functions perfectly and the breach shows some storage grease and grime, but no flaws. The finish shows some minor wear overall with some softening to the patent dates, with slight oxidation freckling to the trigger guard and front strap with no resultant pitting, while the screw slots show minor damage and the wood furniture shows some dings and handling marks, but no cracks. NRA grade excellent overall. Between 1891 and 1900, Remington manufactured approx. 700-800 of these pistols. All firearms purchases must be completed through a Federal Firearms License holder, and the purchaser is responsible for all associated fees. No shipping outside of the United States.
