Description:

Very rare reward poster, 25 x 18.25 in., issued one day after Reich Protector of Bohemia and Moravia REINHARD HEYDRICH (1904-1942) was mortally wounded by a bomb thrown at his car, offering a 10,000,000 Czech Crown reward for the arrest of the assassins. The document also details the day off the assassination and provides a brief description of the perpetrators, in part: 'The Deputy Reich Protector came from his car...a man stood up, trying to fire shots at the occupants with a submachine gun...a second man threw and explosive device at the car, which exploded on impact...This perpetrator was a medium-sized, slim man who wore a black suit and hat...the other is...broad shouldered, strong figure, sun-tanned face, about 20-35 years old...' In addition to the reward, the poster warns: '...Anyone who could give information but does not provide it to the police himself will be shot with his family...all house owners, apartment owners from [this date] onwards have the duty to register persons who have not been registered with the police...Violation of this order is punishable by death...' The poster, issued in Prague on May 28, 1942, is printed in both Czech and German and is signed in type by the protectorate's Higher SS and Police Leader KARL HERMANN FRANK. Folds, some negligible edgewear at bottom, 1 in. tear at central fold, else fine condition and entirely legible. Heydrich would die of his wounds on June 4.
