DAVID RAMSAY(1749-1815) American physician and field surgeon in action around Savannah, captured at Charleston and imprisoned, he later served in the Continental Congress and South Carolina Senate. Rare A.N.S. "David Ramsey " 1p. 12mo., [n.p.] Sept. 3, 1782, to John Ross, in full: "If Mr. Ross will be so obliging as to settle this account of pilotage, he shall have the proper orders from the delegation of South Carolina". Docketed on verso, likely by Ross, noting the payment: "Paid pilotage of 3 Flags out and Inward for acct. of the State". The pilots were most likely operating between British-occupied Charleston and the rebel lines surrounding the city. Mounting remnants on verso, light vertical creases, otherwise very good condition. $200-300
