96. WILLIAM QUARLES (1825-1893) Confederate brigadier general who led a brigade through the Atlanta Campaign and was captured at Franklin, Tenn. He was also captured at Ft. Donelson while a colonel. Pre-war A.D.S., 1p. 4to., Clarksville, [n.d.], the text of Gen. William J. Hardee's telegram to Quarles dismissing a Dr. Lyle from his position administering the hospital at the post, and returning him to Hopkinsville. Very good. $300-400
