PRESENTATION ART PRINTS OF NORWAY FROM JOSEF TERBOVEN (2)
JOSEF TERBOVEN (1898–8 May 1945) German Nazi Party official and politician who was the long-serving Gauleiter of Gau Essen and the Reichskommissar for Norway during the German occupation. He blew himself to atoms with 100 kg. of explosives at war's end. Two presentation portfolios of matted color prints by an artist Walter Mahler. Both include Mahler's various impressions of Norwegian scenes, most pastoral, showing a variety of landscapes such as fjords, mountains, and coastlines, some with buildings, cottages, or boats. Most look to have originally been watercolors, and are signed 'W Mahler'. Portfolio 1: Four large prints housed in a large white portfolio, 18.5 in. x 15 in., bearing a German national eagle and Terboven's title: 'THE REICHSCOMMISSAR FOR THE OCCUPIED NORWEGIAN TERRITORIES' executed in gold foil, the prints are 18.5 in. x 13 in. and all are set within double matting The portfolio bears a few trivial fold and tears, the prints themselves are near perfect. Portfolio 2: Eight smaller prints, 10.25 in. x 87.5 in., surface mounted to single matting, and housed in a white portfolio, 13 in. x 16 in., bearing the title: 'Schones NORWEGEN', '8 AQUARELLE VON WILHELM MAHLER' with , executed in black and blue print, and shows a fine line graphic of a Norwegian Fjord, also giving the titles of each print below. This portfolio bears repairs to the folds on all four sides in archival tape, with the prints themselves appearing in fine condition.
