Description:

PIONEERING AVIATORS
Two pieces by pioneering aviators, the first TEX RANKIN (1896 - 1947) American aerobatic champion, a fearless pilot killed in a routine business flight, bold signature on a small card, also signed by renowned aviatrix DOROTHY HESTER. A great association piece: both Rankin and Hester performed in the 1931 Omaha Air Races. Following a crash before the stands, Rankin immediately took to the air to calm the crowd! Mounted, very good. Along with the signatures of six women pilots who participated in the 1930 Pacific Women's Air Derby, a race from Long Beach to Chicago through the Southwest and Midwest. All signatures are penned on a small card and include: MILDRED MORGAN, JEAN LA RENE, GLADYS O'DONNELL, RUTH STEWART, RUTH BARRON and MARGERY DOIG. From the collection of Audrey Ovington, daughter of aviation pioneer Earl Ovington. Mounted, very good. Two pieces.
