Description:

PHOTO ALBUM OF A MARINE AT PELELIU
Photo album of U.S. Marine Pvt. Joseph R. Konstant containing approx.150 war-date photographs, most about 3.5 x 5.5 in. or larger. The album opens with Konstant at Parris Island receiving training as a Marine, showing him training with rifles, his barracks and other facilities, mess hall, friends, etc., as well as continued training at Camp Elliott in 1943 which includes close combat training. The following images show Konstant at Cape Gloucester, and then there follows about 40 combat photos. These depict heavy combat, some labeled as being at Peleliu, with men in trenches, enemy dead, tanks, etc. Some are clearly first-generation copies made available to soldiers, while others are certainly Konstant's own images, one even marked indicating where his company was debarking. About 30-40 images are postwar showing the lucky survivor amongst fellow veterans and family.
