PAUL I
(1874 - 1801) Emperor of Russia (1796-1801), son of Peter III and Catherine the Great who succeeded Catherine, instituted reforms to help the serfs thus angering the nobility. Assassinated. A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., St. Petersburg, Sept. 16, 1927, in French to General Count Alexander Christoforovich von Benckendorf. In part: "...With much pleasure I take note of the feelings for me you express in your letter. In your turn, you can be assured of the high regard I have for you and your mother [a lady-in-waiting to his wife Czarina Maria Feodorovna]...for those reasons I took a personal interest in how your brother was placed [in the army]...Similarly, I take a keen interest in your marriage, the news of which gave me great pleasure...". Very good condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made.
