(1820 - 1892) Irish-born composer and bandmaster. While serving in the Union Army during the civil war, he wrote the lyrics to the song, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home." A.M.Q.S. 1p. oblong 12mo., "on board the 'City of Dublin'", May 11, 1878 with four bars of his iconic Civil War hymn, "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" and adding: "In the middle of the Atlantic on board the 'City of Dublin'... How delightful it is to say to a lovely young lady, yours truly P. S. Gilmore" One vertical crease at left, extremely light toning at margins, else very good.
