Description:

NATHANIEL H. HARRIS (1834 - 1900) Confederate brigadier general, commended the 19th Mississippi at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Harris's brigade delivered a powerful counterattack in the "Mule Shoe" salient at the Battle of Spotsylvania, and it performed distinguished service during the Siege of Petersburg.[2] At the Battle of Globe Tavern, August 21, 1864, over half of Harris's brigade were casualties.[3] In late 1864 and early 1865, Harris's brigade fought along the Weldon Railroad. Harris again was especially distinguished at the Battles of Fort Gregg and Whitworth at the end of the siege. Rare A.L.S. "N. H. Harris" on U.S. Land Office letterhead, 4pp. 8vo., Berdeen, Dakota Terr., Fev. 27, 1887 to a man in Vicksburg. Harris discusses a legal interrogatory concerning a lawsuit involving "Capt. Harris", apparently a family member whop he fears could be "tortured into an appearance". Last page soiled a bit, and some wear along one fold affecting a few words, still very good.
