Description:

NAPOLEON BONAPARTE
(1769 - 1821) The "Little Corporal" whose brilliance in the field of battle and as Emperor of France has made him perhaps the most important figure of post-Renaissance Europe. Partly-printed D.S. 2pp. 4to., L'Eysee, Feb. 18, 1812, a report from the finance minister on several articles from 1806, six years earlier, in very small part: "...On the report from our Minister of Finance...Art. 1 the provision in our Imperial Decree of 31 Aug. 1806, which removes without reimbursement the revenues from corporations where the establishment of mortmain of the Kingdom of Italy by the old government of the Department of the Empire, situated in the Alps...it is declared that the revenues from the treasury of Rome to be diverted to the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy...Art. 2. The same decree applies to the revenues from the Napoleon Mount Milan [?] for establishment of France...", and so on. The Kingdom of Italy had been formed just one year prior to this report, and essentially served as a theatre for Napoleon's advances in Austria. In June 1812 and less than four months after this letter, Napoleon would make his fatal invasion of Russia, thus securing his downfall and concomitantly, the ascendency of Russia in the Napoleonic era. Boldly signed at conclusion and in very good condition.
