Sent to New York merchant millionaire Alexander Stewart and from his personal papers, reading, in small part: "This place contains 2091 acres; is located...twelve miles from Charlotte, N. C...the soil is loamy...deep and mellow...the growth is principally oak...the surface of the ground is level and of a gently rolling character...these lands are admirably adapted to the growth of cotton, corn, wheat, tobacco, and all grain...labor is very abundant and cheap...the wages of the best farm hands being from $8 to $10 per month...This Plantation is for sale. For further information...address. J. L. Morehead, Charlotte, N. C..." Obviously, one of many sent to prospective individuals this one indicates in manuscript that the land is located "within 24 hours of New York". Near fine.
