Description:

93. GEORGE G. MEADE A.L.S. on his monogram letterhead, 2pp. 12mo., [n.p.], Sep. 15, 1871 to his family doctor concerning his son, George, Jr. In part: "...George is laid up today - He does not deem it necessary to send for you today, but I think if you can without convenience drop in it would be well. He tells me he has had...profuse perspirations at night and that he feels severely weakened by them-I don't know if he has told this to you for I frequently feel he fails to tell you things, which I get out of him by questions..." A tape repair in blank area between leaves, pencil collector's note on blank integral page, else very good. George, Jr. survived his illness and lived another 26 years, but George Sr. would not fare as well: in about a year he would succumb to pneumonia. $400-500
