764. GEORGE G. MEADE (1815-1872) Union major general who commanded brilliantly at Gettysburg, leading to a Union victory and the turning point of the Civil War. Uncommon partly-printed D.S. "Geo. G. Meade Maj. Genl. U.S.A.," 1p, oblong folio, Atlanta, October 31, 1868, a pay voucher for Meade and his personal entourage for the month of November 1868, which includes pay for himself, and "...4 private servant[s] not soldier[s]...", their clothing, and "Subsistence for myself for 25 years service etc...". Boldly signed at conclusion. Dampstained at centerfold and far left margin, with minor paper erosion, clear of signature, otherwise in good condition. $350-450
