LUTHER MARTIN(1748-1826) American lawyer and patriot, Martin was a member of the Continental Congress and Constitutional Convention. He opposed a strong central government and the adoption of the Constitution, and later defended Burr in his trial for treason. A.L.S. 1p. 4to., [n.p.], Mar. 16, 1802, to Col. Robert Carter, in part: "...I am making arrangements to discharge the whole debt I owe you...In the meantime I feel myself under the highest obligations to you for Your great indulgence...".
