Description:

MARIE LAURENCIN
(1885 - 1956) French painter, specialized in idyllic, delicate pastels of young girls and in set and costume decoration. A.L.S. signed "Marie Laurencin" and again "M.L." within text, 2pp. 4to., [Paris?, n.d. but 1873], in French to some friends. In part: "...That's really great, and what champagne! After the holidays we will drink it together, I hope. Sad day yesterday. I took some strangers to see my little houses in Champrosay. I want to sell them. I think I was dealing with people who are very rich. And my thatched roof cottages made a lousy impression on them. As a result, I thought everything was crummy especially the countryside and the sky. When I got back I didn't touch your marvelous champagne but drank red wine. I had a good sleep and just like that in the morning I was that energetic woman who is M.L...". Penned on mint-green, rough edged letterhead. A small repaired tear at top margin, very good condition.
