Description:

Great vintage map showing the advance of Allied troops from Sept. 26 to Nov. 11, 1919, titled at top 'EXTRACT OF MEZIERES-VERDUN-METZ-LONGWY', measuring 29.5 x 37.5 in., overprinted with red-lettering at upper-right: 'Meuse-Argonne Offensive...Map Showing Daily Position of Front Line...May 24, 1919'. This overprinting also indicates '...the lines shown are as near accurate as it will ever be possible to obtain...' and provides the methods behind its creation. The lower-right corner indicates the map was printed by the 29th Engineers, U.S. Army, 1919. Folds, else fine. From the collection of Col. Thatcher T. P. Luquer, commander of the 306th Engineers Regiment, 81st Division, whose regiment saw service in Tronchoy, St. Die, Langres, and the Sommedieue sector of the Meuse-Argonne offensive shortly before war's end. Luquer was commander of the 306th Regiment, then at the front. Consigned by a direct descendant.
