662. STEPHEN R. MALLORY (1813-1873) Confederate Secretary of the Navy. Scarce war-date A.E.S. on the verso of an A.L.S. of BENJAMIN FITZPATRICK, Governor of Alabama (1841-45), Senator, and President pro tempore of the Senate, 1p. 8vo., Montgomery, Feb. 2, 1863 to Mallory. Fitzpatrick introduces a David Hishman, writing in part: "...he has been in Confederate Service and was in the late Battle of Murpheesbo [Murfreesboro] and I learn behaved bravely and as I understand to entire satisfaction of the officers of his Co. He was in Capt. Simple's Artillery Co..." On verso Mallory writes: "Gov. Fitzpatrick's statements are entitled to every consideration. S. R. Mallory / Sec. Navy". Very good. $300-400
