Description:

RAPHAEL TICE (b. 1927) Commanding Officer within the Second Battalion of the 12th Infantry Division during the Vietnam War, serving shortly thereafter as the Deputy Chief of the Force Development Division G-3. Later served as the Commanding General of the 3rd Infantry Division from 1977 to 1978. His Vietnam War-date 'US Army, 1937 Pattern, Blue Color, Mess Dress Uniform', custom-tailored to loosely follow the 1937 Pattern, dated July 11, 1973 within, bearing a navy blue outer body and lined in beautiful, semi-quilted blood red color satin. The exterior buttons are of the two-piece eagle types, all matching, backmarked, and removeable. This uniform has commercial style black satin lapels, and each shoulder bears a heavy gold bullion slip-on epaulette. There is evidence that General Tice once wore his proper miniature medals on his left collar lapel. Each lower sleeve has the regulation wide black velvet false cuffs, and each has the proper gold oak leaves constructed of embroidered yellow cotton. His two silver bullion General's stars insignia are present above the velvet cuffs. A cloth tag on the interior is (falsely) named 'R. T. Tice', and another interior tag bears the incorrect initials 'R.T.T.' The uniform includes his commercial, white color tuxedo shirt, his tuxedo style black color tie, and his cummerbund, and his matching material tuxedo trousers with one black satin stripe running down each leg. Across the front of the jacket is the correct gold chain with two small buttons attached. To help complete this uniform, the consigner has added eight pages of biographical/historical information. Near fine condition throughout. From a major private collection on public display.
