Description:

M1884/98 BAYONET BY CARL EICKHORN
A fine example of a German M1884/98 bayonet, 9.75 in. blade, 15 in. overall, issued for use with the Kar98k rifle. The blade shows a dark blued, with the maker's name ‘Carl Eickhorn' on the left ricasso, and the serial number ‘7014' beneath a script letter ‘b' on the right, and with the number ‘89' on the spine. The bayonet is well marked with Waffenamt stamps bearing the code ‘WaA253' at the top of the crossguard, and twice on the left-hand side of the pommel. The grips are a dark brown composite material with diagonal grooves, secured with two flat-headed screws. The blued steel scabbard is marked just below the throat on the front with the non-matching serial number ‘2092', and on the rear with the maker's name and date ‘E. u. F. Horster 1938'. A WaA253 Waffenamt is locate on the ball at the tip, and the scabbard is held in a black leather frog, very faintly maker-marked on the back, possibly ‘G. Schenck' or similar, over an illegible city. The blade of the bayonet shows faint draw marks on both sides, with expected wear and dings to the grips and pommel, while the scabbard and frog show expected wear, with one small and very shallow ding to the reverse, otherwise in very good condition overall.
