LYNDON JOHNSON AND RICHARD NIXON WHITE HOUSE CHINA A piece of the rarest White House china obtainable, a small bowl from a set of White House china used by both presidents Lyndon B. Johnson and Richard Nixon. The 6.375 in. wide, 1.25 in. tall bowl has a silver rim and silver presidential seal, and was made by Franciscan Interpace as marked on the bottom. Ordered for the White House in 1966 during Lyndon B. Johnson's term in office, this piece was used in the West Wing/Oval Office and also on board the presidential aircraft 'Spirit of '76'. The china appears as Illustration 48.1 in 'China, Glass & Tableware', June 1966, captioned: 'Official seal of The President of the United States is applied to Franciscan Masterpiece China ordered recently for the White House. The order consisted of 36 five-piece place settings plus assorted accessory pieces...' This china also appears in: 'Eye on Nixon' edited by Julie Nixon Eisenhower (1971), p. 58. From the estate of Cmdr. Ronald L. Jackson (1928-1990). Jackson, a Navy officer, was tasked with supervising the planning and implementation of reciprocal state dinners, the operation of the White House Mess and food service at Camp David and aboard Air Force One, and travelled everywhere with Presidents Johnson through George H. Bush.
