Description:

LUFTWAFFE FORESTRY KNIFE
A rare Third Reich Luftwaffe Forestry NCO'S knife, 7.75 in. blade, 12.5 in. overall, featuring heavy staghorn grips secured with three slotted screws, an oval crossguard with a brown leather buffer, and with a bright chromium steel blade with double-edged tip and a deep fuller. The ricasso is marked ‘Waffen-Loesche Berlin', a distributor of hunting knives and other supplies, with the maker's mark ‘Ch. A. W.', for Chromolit-Besteckfabrik, Arthur Wingen, over the serial number ‘497' on the reverse ricasso. The spine of the blade is further marked with the letter ‘H'. The blade shows expected draw marks and small scratches, otherwise the knife is in fine condition overall. It is housed in its correct steel scabbard finished with black enamel or lacquer paint, with a frog retention post showing two grooves over one, and marked with the serial number ‘131' just below the throat. Shows some chips to the finish commensurate with age, else very good to fine. These knives are believed to have been issued to Luftwaffe NCO's seconded to forestry duties.
