Description:

LUDWIG I
(1786 - 1868) King of Bavaria who transformed Munich into the artistic center of Germany, scandalized by his affair with Lola Montez. Scarce A.L.S. "Ludwig", 1p. 12mo., Munich, Apr. 13, 1849, in German shortly after his abdication, he writes in German to von Klemp, probably a financial advisor, about his financial problems, complaining about the thoughtless treatment he is receiving from his son Maximilian II, now King of Bavaria. Ludwig states that he has learned that one of his Bavarian castles will not be his property again until October as sufficient funds for its maintenance were not allocated to him as promised by "my son, the King". He reports that of the allowance of 33,000 gilders provided him for the fiscal year of 1848-49, only 7,000 gilders remain which he states that his son, the King "...knows very well we have already spent or will spend on my properties". Closely-trimmed at left margin, mounted to another sheet that bears a red-wax seal at lower left, overall very good.
