660. JOHN A. LOGAN (1826-1886) Union major general whose successes at Belmont and Atlanta won him the praises of Grant and Sherman. He also founded Memorial Day. A.L.S. "Logan", 1p. 8vo., [n.p.], Dec. 21, 1872 discussing a bill: "...The bill for relief of Miss S. Gilmer has not yet become a law, it passed the Senate but has not passed the House of Reps. and needs watching there..." He also urges that the lady write various representatives urging them to action. Very good. $60-80
