WALTER LIVINGSTON (1740-1797) New York Jurist, delegate to the Continental Congress (1784-5). Fine content war date A.L.S. 2pp. 4to., [Albany], Mar. 30, 1779 to Governor George Clinton of New York concerning grain supplies in the Mohawk Valley. In part: "...I am much obliged to your Excelly. I should not have thought of an appointment of that kind, had not my father and the Chancellor urged me to interfere and prevent many abuses in the purchasing of Wheat in this District. The Farmers have been compelled to part with their Wheat of the Crop [of] 78 tho only the Wheat of 77 and the preceding years are made liable to Seizure by the Act of the 31 of Octr. last- If my information be true there is but a small quantity of Wheat for Sale in the District. If your Exctly. should think proper to have the Law for the better Supply in the Army with Flour & Grain carried into execution and for that purpose appoint me I must request a Copy of the Law...".
