Great grouping of two pieces sent home from Sgt. Bruce Hess, Third U.S. Army, including a 'souvenir' captured in a German clothing store. Included is: A.L.S. 'Brice' , 2pp. 4to., Germany, April 21, [1945], a friendly letter to a friend 'Migs', reading in part: '...I was out on a reconnaissance a few days ago...I thought you might like a souvenir of this affair, so here 'tis. I suppose these emblems are worn on other articles of clothing too...They have worn them for too long. So long that the emblem has eaten down into their petrified hearts. They are a cowed people now though they gaze at the might of our army as its tanks, guns, trucks, foods, and personnel demand the right of way...What you sow, so shall you reap...A good price in American and other lives have been paid...a price that should hang over their heads until they crawl on their bellies for peace...' Very good. Sold with the aforementioned 'souvenir' - an uncut Luftwaffe sport shirt patch, 7.5 x 3.5 in., bearing an inscription by Hess at lower-left, reading: 'Sgt. Bruce Hess...HQ 3d U.S. Army...Apr. 15, 1945'. Sold with transmittal envelope.
