Description:

(JOHN LANGDON) (1741- 1819) Signer of the Constitution, Revolutionary military officer and financial supporter of Stark's expedition against Burgoyne. A good content letter from London merchants Laneson & Traser, 4pp. 4to., London, Sept. 1, 1786 to John Langdon concerning a misappropriated credit given to his brother that Langdon wished restored to his name. After discussing the business at hand the merchants take a moment to reflect on the state of relations between the United States and Great Britain: "...our Treaty of Commerce with France is nearly finished, who could have expected to have lived to see such a sudden & such an unexpected change in Polics. When your Country and ours will be enabled to make a good & generous agreement together is what I cannot say, of this one thing you may be assured, the Nation has as much Trade as it possibly can wish for & seems to be in a much more flourishing state after our expensive War then the most sanguine Man could have expected...". Light folds, else very good. $200-300
