Description:

Original poster, 16 x 20 in., advertising for the famous 'Knox Hat Company' of New York. Founded in 1838, the company lasted an impressive ninety-four years before being forced to merge with other hatters when the Great Depression hit. During their time, Knox became the most prominent brand as several U.S. Presidents chose to wear their hats including Abraham Lincoln. The advertisement displays the company logo, an eagle perched atop a red and white banner with two larger eagles on either side, wings spread. Beneath them is another banner reading: ‘MOVEO ET PROFICIO', and the company name 'Knox' is featured under it. No publishing information found. The poster is presented in a gilded frame, which shows heavy scratching and chipping. Although the frame is in poor condition, the poster itself is fine. Included with this lot are three gilt framed photographs of members of the Knox family, including: Robert S. Knox, Ross M. Knox, and Edward T. Seward. All photos are between 3.5 x 4.5 in. and 9 x 11 in.
