Description:

709. REV. MARTIN LUTHER KING (1929-1968) Clergyman and civil rights leader who advocated nonviolent but active and massive confrontation in order to obtain rights for blacks. Most unusual D.S. 4 1/2" x 6 3/4" overall, a folding table card from a Playboy Club bearing the printed inscription: "May we suggest a bottle of fine imported wine from our cellar" with the famous Playboy "Bunny" logo, boldly signed: "Best Wishes Martin Luther King". A few tiny foxed spots, with date "Feb. 67" penned in another hand at lower-right, mounting remnants on verso, else very good. For those too young to remember, Playboy clubs, owned by the Playboy corporation, featured live entertainment with meals and cocktails served by attractive, scantily-clad waitresses attired in "bunny" costumes and headgear featuring long "bunny ears". Sold with an original color photo, 7" x 5", April, 1967, showing King hitching-up his pants, with Andrew Young standing at left. Also included is the original color slide from which the photo was taken. Three pieces. $2,000-3,000
