His bail was the highest ever at the time, and he escaped the electric chair only to serve the longest-ever stretch at Alcatraz, including 17 years in solitary. Fine content T.Ms.S. 9pp. 4to., Terremolinas, Spain, Sept. 14, 1975, an apparent chapter of his autobiography, with great gangster content, boldly inscribed at signed at conclusion: "with best wishes & warm personal regards to Bill Leutge, From Alvin Karpis, September 14, 1975 Torremolinas, Spain". Fine condition, worthy of future research. $100-150
