Description:

JUDAICA - ESCAPING EUROPE IN THE 1930s A fine lot of nine documents, folio size from the 1937-1938, consisting of immigration requests from Polish Jews to Argentina, with four being the actual applications to emigrate, complete with photo, fingerprints, criminal history and other pertinent data. Interestingly, under the category of "religion", one finds responses such as from "Hebrea", "Israelite" and "Juden". One document bears the R.M.S. Asturias official hand stamp, while the remaining five documents are from 1931, originating from Bucharest, Romania, under the auspices of the "Jewish Colonization Association" to assist Romanian Jews to emigrate. These particular documents are basically consul-to-consul communications with a formal request to leave Romania, with official responses allowing entry to Argentina. Considering the difficulty encountered in find a sponsor country to which to emigrate, one can safely assume the individuals in this grouping were people of means, which enabled them to flee Europe and escape the horrors of the Holocaust. Very good condition, nine pieces. Worthy of further research .
