(1744 - 1774) American patriot and lawyer who, with John Adams, defended Capt. Preston and his soldiers against charges levied against them following the Boston Massacre, was one of the first to urge separation from England, served as an agent to England seeking support from American sympathizers there. Rare A.D.S. on the verso of a demand note, 1p. 8 x 3.25 in., Boston, July 13, 1767 in which one John Curtis promises to pay Edmond Quincy 86 pounds. On the verso, Quincy endorse the note: '1769 Nov:ber 3: Rec'd on this note twenty seven pounds 2/4 [?]...', numerically noting the sum paid and signing. Right side of the note is water stained affecting one word of text, else very good.
