JOSEPH M. W. TURNER
(1775-1851) English painter, perhaps the greatest landscapist of the nineteenth century. Scarce third person A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., [n.p., n.d.], regarding his prints "Liber Studiorum". In full: "Mr. Turner presents his Com[plimen]ts to Miss Rushart and to state that the Liber Studiorum consists of 14 Nos. five subjects in each Price £14 & 14". In 1807 Turner began his great enterprise of publishing a series of 100 plates known as the Liber Studiorum. He published the first part of the Liber Studiorum on June 11, 1807, and contributed to the study of subject-matter, line, composition, atmosphere and tone for artists. The five prints in each volume were stitched together in gray-blue wrappers and printed: "... Liber Studiorum Illustrative of Landscape composition, viz. Historical, Mountainous, Pastoral, Marine and Architectural". Near fine condition.

Shipment is sent USPS priority, USPS International Express (for most overseas) or UPS Ground at the auctioneer's option, signature required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling, shipping and insurance charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyer's should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. Customer's who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee.
