(1740 - 1795) American Revolution major general captured at Long Island and exchanged, he later wintered at Valley Forge, and was abandoned by D'Estaing to face the British at Newport. War-date manuscript D.S. "Jno Sullivan", 1p. oblong 4to., Providence, Jan. 10, 1779 ordering the payment of "Capt. Thomas Clouston Forty Dollars...". Moderate uneven toning, usual folds, mounted to a larger sheet, else very good.
