Description: JOHN F. KENNEDY
(1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down Khrushchev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. His signature obtained in person by our consignor on October 10, 1960 during a parade in New York City. Signed in pencil, on a 3" x 2 1/2" slip of paper, and accompanied by a candid color photograph of Kennedy seated in the rear of an open limousine and a great letter of provenance reading, in part: "...I planned to watch the Columbus Day Parade in NYC and get a photo of JFK...We learned that the parade was delayed and while walking past the Biltmore Hotel (JFK's NYC campaign headquarters), we learned that he was going to hold a press conference on the mezzanine...Security was not tight at that time, so we got into the press conference with our cameras...as [JFK] started out the exit, there was a crowd around him. I shouted - 'Move away from the Senator!' and everyone backed away. Kennedy thanked me and signed his name on the slip of paper with a pencil. I rushed to the elevator so I could photograph him outside. As I exited the elevator, the press and crowd expected JFK to come out. Flash bulbs started popping - they thought I was him. I walked out the hotel and a policeman opened the convertible door where Mayor Wagner was already seated. The policeman then saw I wasn't JFK and pushed me to the rear of the car. Kennedy was right behind me. As he sat down, I called to him. Both the Mayor and Kennedy turned and smiled. That's when I took this historic photo...". Very good condition, and what a great story!
