(1917 - 1963) Thirty-fifth President of the United States. Kennedy faced-down the Kruschev during the Cuban Missile Crisis, re-invigorated NASA, and signed the Nuclear Test Ban Treaty. Assassinated November 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald. Lot of three T.L.S.s 'John Kennedy', all SECRETARIALLY-SIGNED and on his Sentae letterhead, 3pp. total 4to., 1959, to Prof. Willard Thorp (1899-1992), an economist who served as an advisor to Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower and Kennedy who also helped draft the Marshall Plan.Kennedy discusses liberalizing the tariff laws on works of art, noting: '...this has been a ridiculous trade barrier...works of art should have the freest possible circulation throughout the world...'; an invitation to a luncheon to discuss 'questions of defense and foreign policy'; and thanks for Thorp's views 'on the missile satellite problem'. Some marginal staple holes and pencil dockets, else very good. Three pieces.
