LAZARE CARNOT (1753-1823) leading member of the Committee for General Defense and of the Committee of Public Safety. Carnot and Collot d'Herbois in their capacity as members of the Committee of Public Safety support a request received by their correspondent but at the same time warn `...we have never been able to obtain the full and real figures of the company and activity in order to establish what would be a fair amount to be paid to you, and you have always been requesting payments on account based on simple receipts.
