JAPANESE PORCELAIN PLATE
Painted porcelain plate, approx. 2" x 9 1/2" dia., with a foliate rim decorated with red and gilt paint, and an attached porcelain snail, likely of nineteenth-century manufacture. The inside of the plate is decorated with a floral design in famille rose colors, and an incised pattern imitating the shape and veining of a leaf, while the outside bears a continuous floral design. The base bears six illegible Japanese characters, in imitation of Chinese marks. Two large repaired cracks, with two holes drilled into the rim, and some white scaling at the rims, else very good.
