Description:

Fine Italian-made flintlock pistol, 8 1/4" x 14 1/4" overall, bearing the inlaid maker's name of 17th-century Italian gunsmith "Lazaro Lazarino" in silver along the top of the barrel behind the brass front sight. The barrel itself is octagonal from the breech, becoming round halfway to the muzzle, with the breech end decorated with foliate patterns inlaid in copper. The sideplate, trigger guard and butt cap are all brass, intricately decorated with foliate motifs and with a lion's face at the top of the backstrap. The lockplate, cock and barrel are all iron, the lockplate showing a faint foliate decoration. A wood dowel ramrod is secured beneath the barrel within a brass tube. The cock is slightly loose, but cocks and fires strongly. An approx. 4 1/2" long section of the stock at the muzzle appears to have been replaced at a later date, with additional notable chips to the wood above the butt cap. The bore shows dark oxidation and grime throughout, with little observable pitting but with slight deformation to the muzzle. The iron components show some oxidation and pitting, with a straw-colored patina to some areas of the barrel. NRA grade fair to good.
