ISOROKU YAMAMOTO
(1884 - 1943) Japanese Marshal Admiral of the Navy and commander-in-chief of the Combined Fleet during World War II. Responsible for major battles, such as Pearl Harbor and Midway, he died when American code breakers identified his flight plans and his plane was shot down. Boldly penned and signed, fine condition. Sold with a contemporary Japanese postcard photograph Yamamoto in uniform. The envelope originally containing this letter and postmarked Nov. 20, 1942 is offered elsewhere in this auction.
