Very rare ISIS-minted silver-plated five dirham coin used by the terrorist organization and its supporters in lands over which they held control. The coin measures 2 cm. in diameter. This '5 dirham' coin was recovered in 2016 after the re-capture of Ar-Rutbah, in Anbar Province, Iraq. The coin was found in a headquarters building run by a ISIL financier. These coins were very rare and not ever widely circulated. This was the only one I saw or heard of anyone having in my (3) trips to Iraq. The primary currency used by ISIL was the USD...' The coin bears calligraphy of a Hadith relative to charity and the value of work: 'The upper hand is better than the lower hand'. Plated coins were issued by possibly more than one workshop and were distributed across Syria and Iraq. The relative rarity of these specimens points to a quantitatively modest production, possibly discontinued due to the pervasive rumors of fraud.
