(1834 - 1916) Union officer who was severely wounded at the Battle of the Crater. For remaining in the field after his injuries, he was awarded the Medal of Honor. Brief A.L.S. 1p. 8vo., Owego, N.Y., June 8, 1866, accepting his commission as a brevet brigadier general: "Col. I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of my Commn. as Brig. Genl. by Brevet...." Expertly laid in to another sheet, light vertical fold, else fine condition.
