Description:

Disturbing grouping of fourteen drawings by German schoolchildren, each approx. 10 x 13 in., each presumably created during the interwar period. Too disjointed to decipher, just a fraction of the crazed doodles include: a group of four German soldiers firing upon French soldiers, one of whom is falling over and likely dying; a seascape showing sinking ships flying British flags, as German biplanes fire flaming bombs upon them; a yellow painted skull with an outstretched red hand emerging from it, beneath the green haphazard word 'Tote' ('Dead'); a long-haired fairy with blood spurting from her face; a sprawling landscape with quickly-sketched planes flying overhead; a flaming ship on the open seas, showing a pencil-drawn plane above escaping the scene; a large-nosed and very scant elderly man, with a balding head and an enormous frown, very possibly a Jewish caricature; and much more. Some bear untranslated annotations in German on the verso, others bear the child's signature to one corner or on the verso. Light edge wear, else very good condition overall.
