HUGH P. HARRIS
(1909-1979) U.S. Army four-star general, commanded forces in World War I and Korea. At his retirement, he was commanding general of the U.S. Continental Army Command. Good content T.L.S. on 'The Citadel' letterhead, 2pp. 4to., Charleston, October 30, 1968, to cadet Bruce Burkitt responding to questions sent to him. In part: '...In respect to the action or battle which was most successful, I would reply this way. In World War II I think the best fought defensive action was that of the 101st Airborne division in Bastogne. Practically every principle of war directly influenced the result of this action which was almost miraculous. Th result of that battle, of course, was the last German offensive was broken in Ardennes. In respect to Korea, I think the most successful battle was that of the III Korean Corps... This action precluded destruction of the South Korean Army and led the North Koreans to accept and armistice...' Chipping around the margins, else fine condition
