Description:

(1811-1872) Founder and editor of the New York Tribune, longtime political activist, presidential candidate in the 1872 election against Ulysses S. Grant but died before the election was even certified. A.L.S. also initialed once, 1p. 4to., New York, May 16, 1844, to Hamilton Fish (1808-1893) Senator, Governor of New York, Secretary of State under President Grant and considered one of the best to ever hold the position, requesting a set of documents. In part: '...I would be much obliged by your sending me a set of Indian documents this year printed by either house. I mean such as treat of difficulties among the Cherokees etc. etc. Can you send them?...' He also writes in a postscript '...I want a copy of the Senate's Post office bill and of...Presidential election bill. I often comment on measures without knowledge of their details...' Fine condition. Greeley at this time was working at his newly founded newspaper, the New York Tribune. A surprising admission from the famous newspaperman!

Shipping

Shipments are sent via FedEx and DHL (for most overseas shipments) or FedEx Ground at the auctioneer's option. Due to complications from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will ship with USPS Priority Mail only if the buyer submits their request to us in writing and accepts responsibility for delayed shipments. Signature is always required, unless other arrangements are made. Handling and shipping charges will be added to the invoice in one entry. Buyers should be aware that large, framed, fragile or odd shaped items can incur substantial shipping and packing charges. International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight. Please contact us for an estimate before bidding NOTE: Large, heavy or bulky items may not be shipped by the auctioneer - arrangements for shipping of these items via a third-party shipper may be arranged through the auction house. Customers who supply their own courier account number will still be charged a handling fee. Please allow 2-3 weeks for shipments after receipt of payment due to the high volume of packages being shipped.
