J. EDGAR HOOVER (1895-1972) Controversial Director of the F.B.I. who built the organization into the world's finest investigative agency. Good lot of seven T.L.S.'s on official letterhead, 7pp. 4to., Washington, 1958-1971, all to noted author and columnist Jim Bishop, most with friendly content thanking him for copies of his books and columns. One 1965 letter mentioning a pro-police column notes: "...Straightforward and solid thinking is needed to crystallize the views of the many fuzzy-minded do-gooders prevalent today... ". Some stray pencil and pen marks affect two of the letters, else very good. $200-300
