Description:

HITLER'S "EAGLE'S NEST" BLUEPRINTS
Extraordinary set of eleven contemporary working blueprints of the "Kehlsteinhaus" above Berchtesgaden, created at the time of construction from the original hand-drawn plans drafted by Prof. Roderich Fick in Munich, 1938. These plans generally concern details of the dining room at the mountaintop structure and include: three-dimensional interior view, 26" x 18"; top view of the room, 38" x 22"; ceiling design, 40" x 22"; detail of windows and cupboards, 35 1/2" x 14"; detail of hallway, 35" x 15"; detail of entry from study and hall, with annotations, 35" x 15"; elevator interior, 24" x 18"; elevator exterior days, 24" x 18"; elevator ceiling and lighting, 24" x 18"; elevator interior, 24" x 18"; and furniture construction detail, 28" x 21". A few of the plans have slightly faded but remain fully legible, else very good. The Kehlsteinhaus, or "Tea House", was presented to Adolf Hitler on his 50th birthday as a retreat and place to entertain friends and visiting dignitaries. It was commissioned by Martin Bormann in the summer of 1937 as a 50th birthday gift. Paid for by the Nazi Party, it was completed in 13 months. Architect Roderich Fick (1886-1955) was Hitler's favorite architect, and became one of the top choices of the Nazi hierarchy.
