HERBERT HOOVER
(1874-1964) 31st President of the United States whose attempts to reverse the course of the Great Depression led to his defeat at the polls by Franklin D. Roosevelt. T.L.S. 1p. 4to. on his personal letterhead, New York, Feb. 16, 1939 thanking his correspondent for "...writing me in reference to my Lincoln Day speech. It was a great occasion, where I believe we marched a step forward in unity of the Republican Party for 1940..." Usual folds, else fine condition. Offered with the original transmittal envelope and several published copies of speeches by Hoover including 'Can Europe's Children be Saved?' (Oct. 19, 1941); The Crisis and the Political Parties (1937); Herbert Hoover Appeals for the lives of 40,000,000 starving women and children in the small invaded democracies of Europe (1941); as well as a typescript speech about Hoover's life by an unknown author as well as various newspaper clippings concerning Hoover.
