Description:

(1820-1866) Confederate brigadier general, wounded at Baton Rouge and Shiloh before resigning after being elected Governor of Louisiana. Died soon after the conclusion of the war from a stomach disorder. Rare war date A.D.S. 1p. 4to., ‘Allen Battery', Vicksburg, June 2, 1862, recommending a lieutenant. In part: '...This is to certify that Lt. L.L. Henford....has been in the service of the Confederacy since the 4th of May, 1861 and that he now leaves the regiment for home...I further state that Lt. Henford is thoroughly drilled in all the duties of a soldier and eminently qualified for any position in the army to which he may aspire...his valuable services in aiding me in erecting and manning the batteries for the defense of Vicksburg...I know him to be a brave soldier...' Two months after this Allen would be wounded at Baton Rouge which crippled him for life. Slight toning and foxing, else fine condition.

International shipments are invoiced by DIMENSIONAL weight, not the item weight.
